- 8-consecutive days – East Coast & Midwest Locations
- 4-weekends-in-a-row (Saturday & Sunday) – Oriental, NC
- 2-4-day consecutive weekends (Thursday through Sunday) – Midwest

General Description – The OUPV is authorized to carry up to six passengers “for hire.” This license can be issued, depending on where you gained your underway experience, for the US Near Coastal waters (includes Great Lakes & US Inland), Great Lakes (includes US Inland), or US Inland waters, as specified in 46 CFR Part 11. This license is the most popular of the Captain’s Licenses and is used for fishing charters, sailing charters, sailing/boating instruction, guide service, etc.
General Course Description – The first 7 days are classroom instruction and on day 8 we give the test. It satisfies the classroom instruction and examination requirement listed in 46 CFR 11.910, Table 11.910-2 in lieu of taking examinations at a US Coast Guard Regional Examination Center (REC). All equipment and necessary reference material will be provided for classroom use. Upon successful completion of the course and test you will be issued a Certificate of Completion to be submitted to the U.S.C.G. to get your license. See Application Requirements.

- For this license, a day of sea service is defined as at least 4 hours underway on any given calendar day.

INLAND – 360 days of sea service OF WHICH:
- Recency – 90 days must be in the past 3 years on vessels
GREAT LAKES – 360 days of sea service OF WHICH:
- Recency – 90 days must be in the past 3 years on vessels
- 90 days of service must be on Great Lakes
NEAR COASTAL – 360 days of sea service OF WHICH:
- Recency – 90 days must be in the past 3 years on vessels
- 90 days of service must be on Ocean or Near Coastal waters
